Kolkata: On a dark, rainy day earlier this month, news came into Gariahat Police Station that an elderly man was lying on the pavement near Gariahat crossing, apparently too ill to move or seek shelter from the rain. On-duty Sub-Inspector Mr. Ranjit Yadav rushed to the spot, and the elderly man was shifted to a government hospital, from where he was discharged following preliminary treatment. But even the brief check-up revealed an old backbone fracture.
Having recovered somewhat, he told the police that his name was Asit Kumar Dey and that he was 72 years old. He also said that he had nowhere to live. Realizing the problem, SI Mr.Yadav coordinated with an NGO to make arrangements to remove the ailing, elderly man to a charitable hospital for further medical treatment.
On 13.8.2021, Mr. Dey was finally shifted to a charitable organization in the Phoolbagan area, which will now be his permanent address. Our good wishes are with him.
