Kolkata: There was a usual rush about the day’s work at our control room when suddenly, at around 4:30 pm yesterday, the phone in the control room started ringing. Sonali Kochar, from Mumbai, was at the other end, anxiously she informed us that a lady named Saroj Malik of about seventy-five years and her forty-six-year-old son Amit Malik, a patient of neurotic disease was in need of urgent medical attention. Saroj and Amit were located at the Iskon Temple in Albert Road, Kolkata. Both were residents of Mumbai.
Immediately, the photographs of the duo and contact number of Saroj Malik, obtained from Sonali was relayed to Officer in Charge of Shakespeare Sarani Police Station Inspector Mr. Joysurja Mukherjee. Within a few minutes, Sergeant Sandip Roy of Shakespeare Sarani Police Station reached the Iskon Temple.
It was learned that the mother and son had gone to the house of Saroj’s elder brother at Burdwan for the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan. They were scheduled to return to their residence in Mumbai on 25 August morning. But due to Amit’s neurotic attack, they were forced to miss the train.
They were looking for accommodation and so went to a Gurudwara then to the Iskon Temple at Albert road. Amit had again suffered an attack and they were really helpless and got in touch with Sonali Kochar, who got in touch with us from Mumbai.
Sergeant Sandip Roy arranged for a Karma ambulance and initially shifted them to the emergency ward of SSKM Hospital and then to the Psychiatric departmental of Bangur Institute of Neuro Sciences. After initial treatment, Saroj Malik requested us to get her son moved to a Doctor of a private hospital at Kaikhali, who had treated her son earlier. All arrangements were made accordingly by the Shakespear Sarani police station and Amit was shifted to the private hospital at Kaikhali. Assistant Sub Inspector Barun Mukherjee of Shakespeare Sarani Police Station accompanied them. Malik was under treatment and the doctor confirmed that his condition was stable. Later, we also ensured that the relieved mother, Saroj Malik was accommodated at her relative’s home in Lake Town. We wish her son a speedy recovery.
