Kolkata: At about 8.40 this morning, Sergeant Mr. Rathindranath Layak was on duty near Gate No. 1 of Kolkata Leather Complex on Basanti Highway, when a lady got off a bus on the Shyambazar-Malancha route and told him that a man had just snatched her mobile phone inside the bus, and when she raised an alarm, had got into a taxi and was now trying to escape.
Under instructions from Tiljala Traffic Guard OC Inspector Mr. Souvik Chakraborty, Sergeant Mr. Layak and civic volunteer Mr. Suvendu Mondal immediately gave chase to the taxi. Meanwhile, Inspector Mr. Chakraborty alerted all police personnel present along the route to look out for the taxi too. The chase finally ended approximately 2 km away, when the two pursuers intercepted the vehicle near Bamanghata.
The accused, Sk. Manirul was apprehended and the stolen phone recovered from his possession. He has been handed over to Kolkata Leather Complex Police Station for necessary legal action, and the phone has been returned to its owner, who is overjoyed at our prompt response and has extended profuse thanks to Kolkata Traffic Police.
