Tamil Nadu, Chennai, April 29: In a compelling address during the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin reaffirmed the crucial role of the police in preserving peace and promoting progress in the state. While discussing the police department’s budget, the Chief Minister made several landmark announcements and strongly emphasized that maintaining law and order is a shared responsibility between the public and the police.

“The safety and harmony we enjoy today is not solely the achievement of the police department—it also depends on the responsible behavior of every citizen,” said CM Stalin. He urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement, remain vigilant, and promptly report suspicious activity to authorities.

In a major announcement, CM Stalin declared September 6 to be celebrated annually as “Police Day” in Tamil Nadu, recognizing the tireless service of police personnel. On this day, state-wide police exhibitions will be held and medals will be awarded to officers for exemplary service. He also announced mandatory annual medical checkups and blood donation camps for all police personnel to support their well-being.

Highlighting the broader impact of effective policing, CM Stalin stated that the state’s overall development—including industrial growth, education, and tourism—rests on the solid foundation of peace and security ensured by the police force. “Even if our ministers work diligently, their efforts succeed only because of the law and order maintained by the police,” he said.

Addressing critics of Tamil Nadu’s law and order, the Chief Minister dismissed politically motivated comparisons. “This is not Manipur, not Kashmir, and not Uttar Pradesh where Kumbh Mela tragedies occurred. This is Tamil Nadu—do not forget that,” he declared with firm conviction.

Reiterating his confidence in the force, CM Stalin praised the police for their swift actions in handling crime and promised transparency and corrective steps in cases of occasional lapses. “Our police force is not just a protector—it is the backbone of our state’s peace and progress,” he concluded.
