In his welcome address, the DGP thanked the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor J&K, other dignitaries, and members of the media for attending the event. He thanked the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor for creating a large-scale drug de-addiction facility in Jammu. He thanked the district administration for providing land for the center. He said that under the direction of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor J&K, the facility was included in the Jammu Smart City Project and funded by Jammu Smart City Limited.
The DGP said that it was a matter of great pleasure for all of us to provide the necessary facilities here. “Drug abuse is a bigger challenge at J&K than terrorism, as it not only provides oxygen to terrorism by funding terrorist networks but also targets our younger generation,” he said. He said that terrorism targets civilians and security forces individually, while drugs target the entire society and lead the people, especially the youth, down the path of destruction. Mr. Singh said the Jammu and Kashmir police were making huge efforts against the drug trade and seized large quantities of drugs and large quantities of narco-trade-cash. He said the threat has increased over the past few years and along with the intense fight against drugs, JK police are making outstanding efforts to make the public aware of the severity of the problem to fight this threat collectively.
The DGP said Jammu and Kashmir police were operating 10 police drug de-addiction centers, including two headquarters in Jammu and Srinagar. He said a well-equipped drug de-addiction center had recently been set up in Srinagar and was now operational. He said more than 6,000 victims were being treated at police drug de-addiction centers during the year. The DGP said the center employs qualified doctors, counselors, and staff. “We are shouldering this responsibility under JKP’s Civic Action Program and now with the help of local government and civil society we can tackle this threat more effectively and help the affected population,” he said.
Jammu ADGP Mr. Mukesh Singh presented the vote of thanks while IR 15th BN Commandant Shri Mubasir Latifi officiated the function.
The proposed double-story center will be built by the Police Construction Division, J&K, and is expected to be completed within a year. The center covers a total area of 11,232 square feet and includes two wards, an emergency room, doctor’s cabins, counseling rooms, reception center/waiting halls, doctor’s lounge with pantry, a lounge for nursing, store, and administrative officer room. Facilities required for patients and staff.
