Malda, West Bengal, June 5: In a heartwarming act of compassion and perseverance, Malda District Police successfully reunited a 15-year-old specially-abled boy from Nepal with his family, after he was found wandering aimlessly in Gourahand village under Chanchal Police Station.
The boy, who was hearing and speech impaired, could not communicate his identity or address clearly. Despite their best efforts, the police were initially unable to trace his origin.
In a commendable step, Special Educator Ms. Sohana Parveen was brought in to assist. Using sign language, she managed to extract a crucial clue—the word “Khutta.” This single word became the turning point in the search.
With relentless determination, Constable Ajay Oraon, SI Kajal Kumar Das, and SI Bimal Mandal scoured Google Maps, showing the boy images of every place named “Khutta” across India. When no location matched, the search extended internationally. It was then that a village named “Khutta” was found in Madhesh Province, Nepal. The boy instantly recognized the location through images and confirmed it using sign language.
Acting swiftly, the police contacted Nepal-based NGO Ragam Apath Anrakh, through whom the boy was identified as Shashi Yadav, son of Phulbaboo Yadav, residing under Louharpatti Police Station, Mahattari District, Nepal.
A video call was arranged, and the boy was finally reunited with his overjoyed mother, Biva Devi, who arrived in Malda with relatives to take him home. The reunion was facilitated by the Chanchal Police Station in coordination with the Malda Child Welfare Committee.
This remarkable story is a shining example of dedicated policing, cross-border cooperation, and humanity in action. Kudos to Malda District Police, Chanchal Police Station, Ms. Sohana Parveen, and all who played a part in returning this specially-abled child safely to his family.
