Sukma: Chhattisgarh Police reported that during an operation in Bastar’s Sukma district on Monday, they engaged in an encounter resulting in the death of a suspected Maoist. Recovered from the scene were a Barrel Grenade Launcher (BGL) rifle and Maoist paraphernalia. The identity of the deceased is still unknown, and search operations in the forest are ongoing. The encounter occurred in the Dohramangu jungles under the jurisdiction of the Kistaram police station, as detailed in a press release by Sukma Police. The operation involved a joint team of District Reserve Guard and Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) personnel, following intelligence on Maoist activity in the area. The encounter began when the team encountered gunfire upon reaching the Dohramangu jungles bordering Telangana. After the exchange of fire ceased, the body of a male Maoist and a BGL rifle were discovered at the scene, along with Maoist materials. This incident marks the 33rd Maoist fatality in separate encounters with security forces in the Bastar region this year, encompassing seven districts including Sukma.
