Telangana, Hyderabad City: In response to a recent incident at the Muthyalamma Temple within the Market Police Station limits, Hindu Dharmik Sangalu organizations, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, called for a ‘bandh’ and planned a supposedly peaceful protest rally. Over 3,000 people gathered from across the city at the Muthyalamma Temple in Secunderabad without securing official permission for the rally. The crowd soon became aggressive, splitting into two main groups: one attempting to move towards the local mosque in a hostile manner, while the other headed towards the Metropolis Hotel with intentions to vandalize the premises.

Despite multiple efforts to de-escalate the situation, the unruly mob began calling for the demolition of the mosque. When police officers intervened to prevent them from approaching the mosque, the mob retaliated by throwing stones, sticks, water bottles, slippers, and chairs at the police, resulting in injuries to more than 15 officers. Among the injured were an ACP who suffered cervical injuries, and an inspector who sustained head wounds.

Although local residents, including members of the temple management, tried to reason with the crowd, their attempts were unsuccessful. To control the situation and ensure public safety, the police resorted to a lathi charge. However, the mob regrouped and continued to provoke violence. Additional forces were called in, and after persistent negotiations, the crowd was eventually dispersed from the temple area. Yet, the violence continued as the mob turned on public transport, pelting stones and damaging two RTC buses.

Action is being taken against those involved, according to Ms. S. Rashmi Perumal, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police for the North Zone, Hyderabad City.

Public Advisory: The police request the public to cooperate and refrain from spreading rumors. Two press releases have already been issued with updates on the situation, and further information will be shared as the investigation progresses.
