Chennai, Tamil Nadu: In a major crackdown against narcotics trafficking and in line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of a Drug-Free India (Nasha Mukt Bharat) and the directives of the Hon’ble Union Home Minister, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Chennai Zonal Unit, achieved a significant success by seizing 320 kilograms of Ganja valued at approximately ₹2 crore.
Acting on specific intelligence, NCB officers conducted a targeted operation on 12.10.2025 near Karanodia Toll Plaza, Chennai, and intercepted a green Ashok Leyland “Bada Dost” vehicle (Reg. No. TN-48-BH-3298). On thorough inspection, 150 packets of Ganja were found concealed in a specially designed hidden compartment beneath a false bottom of the vehicle.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver had transported the contraband from Andhra Pradesh to Tamil Nadu. Following swift follow-up action, another individual was arrested for facilitating the smuggling operation by arranging fake number plates and a counterfeit FASTag for the vehicle.
Further investigations are in progress to trace and apprehend other members of the interstate narcotics syndicate involved in the illegal trade.
