Under the initiative of Mr. Ashok Kumar IPS, Director General of Police, Uttarakhand, Operation Mukti Abhiyan was launched with the objective of rescuing and rehabilitating children who were forced to beg on the streets. During one of the patrols, the police team consisting of Suman Lata and M. Kani Vidya observed two minors begging in the bustling market of Kotdwar.
The police team immediately swung into action and contacted the parents of the minors to counsel them about the importance of education and the detrimental effects of child labor. The police team used their persuasive skills to convince the parents to send their children to school, rather than forcing them to beg on the streets.
The parents, after being counseled by the police team, agreed to send their children to school. In furtherance of this, the police team facilitated the admission of both children to R.P.V. Shashtnagar Kotdwar. The children and their parents were ecstatic and visibly overjoyed during the admission process, and the children were enthusiastic about starting their education.
The Uttarakhand Police’s efforts under Operation Mukti Abhiyan were widely applauded, and the family members and school staff expressed their gratitude towards the police team. This campaign was a resounding success as it saved two innocent children from a life of destitution and provided them with an opportunity to receive an education, thereby giving them hope for a brighter future.
