Hyderabad, Telangana: In a significant conviction under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, the XII Additional Sessions Court at Nampally sentenced an accused to three years of rigorous imprisonment in a case registered by the Shahinayathgunj Police Station.
The court convicted Md. Ayub alias Awais (34), a resident of Bahadurpura, in connection with Crime No. 323/2023 under Sections 354(A) and 506 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 9(m) read with Section 10 of the POCSO Act. Apart from the prison sentence, the court also imposed a fine of ₹5,000.
According to police, the incident involved a 10-year-old minor girl. The accused allegedly took the child near a mobile washroom area and behaved inappropriately by exposing himself. The minor immediately raised an alarm and ran away, following which nearby women rescued her and informed her father. The family later lodged a complaint at the Shahinayathgunj Police Station.
The child was referred to the Bharosa Centre where her statement was recorded and she received counseling and emotional support. Continuous follow-up sessions by the Bharosa team helped the child recover and resume her studies. She is currently attending school regularly and performing well academically and in extracurricular activities.
The conviction was achieved due to the coordinated efforts of the investigating officers, prosecution team, legal counselors from Bharosa Centre, and court liaison staff who worked diligently throughout the trial.
Senior officials of Hyderabad Police and the Bharosa Centre monitored the case closely, ensuring timely investigation and victim support. City Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar appreciated the coordinated efforts of all stakeholders in securing justice for the minor victim.
