CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Wednesday warned that it would be constrained to initiate suo motu contempt against the Police officers if the court directions are not complied with and censured the State Police for failing to arrest missing film producer Madhan of Vendhar Movies within a time frame. A Division Bench of Justices A. Selvam and P. Kalaiarasan directed the Commissioner of Police, Chennai to take steps to arrest Madhan before September 21, on an earlier hearing in the case. Vendhar Movies, a film production company that was being run by Madhan left an alleged suicide note and disappeared on May 25. Parents of aspiring medical students alleging that Madhan had collected over Rs. 75 crore from them on the promise of securing medical seats for their wards in the SRM University had filed criminal cases. Special Team Constituted, Searching After the case came up for hearing on Wednesday, the Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) submitted that a special team had been constituted and the team was leaving to Kashmir and Nepal hoping to nab Madhan. The APP then filed a status report on the developments. The Bench refusing to accept the report asked the APP to produce the copy of the order issued by the Commissioner of Police (CoP) to constitute the special committee. The judges wondered, “Without an order how the team would visit these places”. The Bench accepting the request of the APP granted two weeks to arrest the producer and posted the plea to October 6, for further hearing. Courtesy: The Hindu ]]>
