N&M Andaman: As part of their zero-tolerance approach to bootlegging, the A&N police have intensified efforts to eliminate the production and distribution of illicit liquor. In the North & Middle Andaman District, they have adopted a strategy of conducting jungle search operations, which have resulted in significant successes. Recently, multiple operations have taken place, leading to the apprehension of illicit liquor makers and the recovery of a substantial amount of illicit liquor known as Lehan. On June 3, 2023, a major crackdown occurred in the Basantipur, Govindapur, and Nimbudera forests, where the A&N Police team of OP Badam Nallah, consisting of Head Constable S. Additionally, they confiscated 50 kilograms of raw materials, utensils, and other equipment used for the distillation process. In another successful jungle search operation led by SI Pankaj Kumar Pandey, the SHO of Rangat, 120 liters of Lehan kept in 8 tins were destroyed in the dense forest of the Shyam Kund area.
