Chennai: In Kancheepuram the Athi Varadar festival is being conducted and a large contingent of police personal have been deployed to maintain the law and order on a 24 hour basis and to ensure smooth functioning of the festival. Since the commencement of the festival on July1 around 13,000 police personal had been deployed for security duty on a shift basis. Various jobs were given to them while they were on duty and the jobs are regulating traffic, monitoring queues and facilitating the darshan in proper order and ensuring crime control round-the-clock. The three personnel Mr. Aasirvatham, Mr. Gopi and Mr. Dhayanidhi who were part of the Tamil Nadu Special Police XIII Battalion were rewarded for their outstanding work by the Director General of Police Mr. J.K. Tripathy. During the occasion Mr. Shankar Jiwal, Additional DGP Armed Police, Chennai, was present. A theft took place at the location where the festival was being conducted and the police personal on duty had been intimated regarding the matter. On being informed the 3 police personal caught the accused who committed the theft and seized the stolen materials from his possession.
