Vijayawada: A tense atmosphere prevailed in Vijayawada with the call of Chalo Vijayawada given by the Employees Union as part of the ongoing movement against the PRC. On the other hand, the PRC Sadhana Samithi announced that the program would be held despite the police denying permission for the Chalo Vijayawada program. With this the situation became tense. Police were alerted to the workers’ movement and prevented them from reaching Vijayawada and set up check posts on all the entrances to the city to prevent any trouble to the people. The BRTS road was completely taken over by the police.
Employees from all over the state are flocking to the Chalo Vijayawada event. Meanwhile, an altercation broke out between the employees and the police when they blocked the employees going to ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ in Vijayanagaram district at the Parvathipuram railway station. The employees got into an argument with the police and shouted slogans demanding their rights to go to Vijayawada. However, the police replied that they were taking action as per the law. Employees’ union leaders are going to Vijayawada like ordinary people wearing odd dresses after being stopped by the police.
Police were heavily deployed near the Prakasam Barrage Kanakadurgamma bridge as government employees were not allowed to attend the Chalo Vijayawada program. Barricades were set up and every vehicle heading to Vijayawada was monitored. North Sub Division DSP Mr. Rambabu inspecting vehicle inspections at Barrage. Police cordoned off the bridge, Prakasam Barrage, Ring Road, BRTS Road, and all other entrances to the city.
