Medchal-Malkajgiri, Telangana: In a determined effort to make roads safer, Malkajgiri Traffic Police conducted a special week-long drunk driving enforcement drive from 28 June to 4 July 2026, resulting in the apprehension of 151 offenders.
The enforcement drive targeted motorists driving under the influence of alcohol, with 134 two-wheeler riders, 4 three-wheeler drivers, and 13 four-wheeler drivers found violating the law. Breath analysis revealed that 126 offenders had Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 36–200 mg/100 ml, 15 offenders had BAC levels between 201–300 mg/100 ml, and 10 offenders recorded BAC levels exceeding 300 mg/100 ml, indicating severe intoxication.
All the offenders are being produced before the jurisdictional court for legal action. The police also reiterated that anyone driving under the influence of alcohol and causing a fatal accident will face stringent action under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years along with a fine.
During the same week, the courts disposed of 236 drunk driving cases, imposing appropriate penalties, including fines and social service, reinforcing the message that drunken driving will not be tolerated.
The special enforcement drive underscores Malkajgiri Traffic Police’s commitment to preventing road accidents, promoting responsible driving behaviour, and ensuring the safety of all road users through strict and sustained traffic law enforcement.
