Hyderabad: Parents should keep a close eye on what their children are doing, city police commissioner Mr. CV Anand IPS said on Saturday. Police launched the Drug-Free Hyderabad campaign on February 12 at Borabanda. After launching the campaign, the Commissioner of Police said that they had complete information on drug abuse in some international schools. He said that along with cannabis, those selling cocaine, heroin, and other drugs were being arrested.
Mr. Anand said peer pressure was one of the reasons why children were exposed to drug abuse. As part of the campaign, pubs, clubs, and bars will be under surveillance.
Speaking on the occasion, Home Minister Mahmood Ali said that it was the responsibility of parents to inculcate good manners and habits in raising children properly and keeping them away from addictions, adding that the Hyderabad police had done a tremendous job in curbing the drug menace. The home minister said that movies and social media are destroying young people who are inspired by alcohol, drugs, and tobacco use as emotional outlets in movies, their role models, which attracts them towards drugs and ultimately leads to devastating health problems, the home minister said.
Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath said, “We are constantly rounding up such bullies and counseling them to face the realities. Many are reforming themselves and engaging in a drug-free Hyderabad campaign.”
