<![CDATA[The Tambaram police, on Thursday, arrested two persons who were trying to remove the skimmer they had placed in an ATM on Gandhi Road in Tambaram. The police identified the accused as Sultan, 51, of MKB Nagar and Sulaiman, 49, of Rahmath Nagar in Tirunelveli. A few days ago, the staff of a cash management company noticed some difference in the appearance of the card slot in the ATM machine when they opened the cash chest to load currency and alerted the bank officials. Subsequently, the bank manager and other officials inspected it and confirmed that it was a skimmer. They informed the Tambaram police who seized the device. In the CCTV footage, the police found two persons tampering with the ATM. The two, who came to the kiosk on Thursday, were intercepted by the staff. They closed the shutters and called the police. On inquiry, the suspects admitted to the crime saying they have been paid by unknown callers for procuring data by planting skimmer devices in ATM centers. The Tambaram police said the skimmer might have been installed a week ago. The device was capable of capturing card details, including the PIN, through a sensor panel when a customer uses the ATM. “ATM users should inspect card slots for suspicious objects and change the PINs of their bank cards at frequent intervals,” the officer said. The case is likely to be transferred to the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police.]]>
