<![CDATA[In a major haul, the Peelamedu police on Sunday seized 220 kg of ganja trafficked by two Theni natives from Andhra Pradesh to Tamil Nadu. The police are on the hunt for a Coimbatore native who was supposed to act as an intermediary for the drug trade in Coimbatore. A. Vanaraj (45) from Andipatti and V. Murugan (44) from Cumbum were arrested by a team of police led by Peelamedu Inspector Mr. V. Selvaraj. According to the police, a four-wheeler vehicle traveled by the duo was checked at Chinniyampalayam check post before entering the city limits around 10.30 a.m. On searching the vehicle, the police found 110 packages of ganja, each containing two kg. Mr. Selvaraj said that when interrogated, the accused confessed to the police that the ganja stock was procured from Andhra Pradesh. The duo had plans to meet an intermediary named Balaji in Coimbatore for selling the drugs here. Balaji, an accused in immoral trafficking cases, is on the run. According to the police, the accused trafficked the drug from Andhra to Theni in the vehicle before coming to Coimbatore. They also reportedly sold large quantities of ganja to buyers on the way to Theni and Coimbatore. The accused had used a false registration number in the vehicle when the police seized it. Mr. Selvaraj added saying that the police are investigating further to find the intended buyers here. The accused were produced before the magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.]]>
