Chennai: Mr. S. George, Commissioner of Police, Chennai has given instructions to Police officers to check on every criminal to know about their present activities and to keep them under constant watch. Around 4,350 criminals in the list are said to be absconding and the CoP has given instructions to launch a hunt for them. A senior police officer told Policenewsplus, “The list has been prepared as per the modus operandi and crimes committed by these criminals. We have classifications like murder for gain, attempt to murder, robbery, chain snatching, burglary, cheating and theft. So the criminals arrested for such offences are being brought under each category and their details are provided”, the officer added. The idea of providing the list to the beat patrol team is that they should have a fair idea about the criminals under their jurisdiction. The officer said, “There are some criminals who do not commit crimes in their police station limits. So, the local police inspector may not be aware about a case booked against such a criminal in some other city police stations. So with the present list, they will get to know the types of criminals under their jurisdiction”. Sources added that the beat patrol teams have already started summoning every criminal mentioned in the list and are checking on their present activities. “The list prepared by us strictly pertain to city limits. If we consider the number of criminals operating in the city but hailing from other neighbouring districts, there would be some 5,000 more to the present number,” he added. The beat patrol system has been improved and the number of beat patrol has also been increased. The Police officer said, ‘’There is a remarkable decrease in number of crimes reported in the city after we undertook these measures. In most of the crimes, experienced criminals are involved and when police began monitoring their activities closely at each station level, crime rates have come down”.]]>
