VIJAYAWADA: A young Police constable Mr Mohammed Masthan working under the Bhavanipuram Police station limit took risk to rescue the two contract workers K Rambabu and P Venkateswarlu who entered the manhole in Vijayawada to clean the drain. It is said the manhole is situated quite close to the Police station where Rambabu and Venkateswarlu died. When locals alerted the Police about a worker in unconscious condition, the Police constable Masthan ran to the spot along with Sub-Inspector of Police Mr Abdul Salam. Masthan hoping to rescue the men ventured in to the sewer with the help of a rope after understanding the seriousness of the incident. After tracing the two workers in the sewer, Masthan thought that they were alive, Masthan said. “Though one of the workers was alive he was unconscious whereas the pulse of other person could be felt. As there was no oxygen I felt dizziness after entering the sewer, but I regained my strength and helped people to pull out the men using the rope, but inspite of this we could not save them” he said. Masthan said that the SI was helping him and the locals were there to pull him out in case of any danger. The thought of saving a life, motivated me Masthan said when asked about taking such a risk.]]>
