Chandigarh, Punjab: In a powerful display of commitment and coordination, the Punjab Police, under the leadership of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, announced significant progress in the ongoing War against Drugs campaign.
Since March, the state’s law enforcement has arrested 14,734 drug smugglers and frozen assets worth ₹74 crore linked to narcotics trafficking. Additionally, 104 illegally acquired properties were demolished as part of the crackdown.
The anti-drug drive has also focused on rehabilitation. Over 6,000 drug users have been admitted to de-addiction centers, including 1,121 individuals who voluntarily came forward under Section 64-A of the NDPS Act. This approach highlights the department’s balanced strategy—combining firm enforcement with a compassionate push for recovery.
The campaign’s success is bolstered by cutting-edge technology, including AI-based mapping, GPS tracking anklets for repeat offenders, and drone surveillance. These innovations have enabled the Punjab Police to stay a step ahead in intercepting trafficking networks and safeguarding communities.
Seizures during this period include 586 kg of heroin, 247 kg of opium, 25.7 lakh intoxicant tablets and capsules, and drug money amounting to ₹10.76 crore.
The force’s humane ‘Each One Adopt One’ initiative, where officers personally mentor recovering addicts, further reinforces their dedication to long-term rehabilitation and social reintegration.
The Punjab Police remains resolute in its mission to create a drug-free state. “Together, we will protect our youth and secure a safer future for Punjab,” the DGP affirmed.
