Uttarakhand, Uttarkashi, May 5, 2025: In a major crackdown under the “Drugs-Free Devbhoomi Mission”, a joint team of Purola Police, the Special Operations Group (SOG), and the Revenue Department conducted a coordinated raid in the Damta and Bernigad regions.
The operation led to the destruction of illegal opium (poppy) cultivation spread across approximately 160 nali (equivalent to about 3.2 hectares) of agricultural land. Specifically, the team cleared:
120 nali of illicit crop in the revenue area near Village Bhaunti, and
40 nali in the Cheenakhet Tok area of Village Singuni.
In connection with the unauthorized cultivation of opium on approximately 40 nali in Cheenakhet Tok, four local landowners—Ammar Singh, Rajendra Singh, Ranveer Singh, and Maindar Singh—were identified and found cultivating opium without valid authorization.
An FIR has been registered against them at Purola Police Station under Section 8/18 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Authorities reiterated that such operations will continue as part of the mission to eliminate narcotics from the region and warned that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in illegal drug activities.
