Madurai: On May 9th, 2023, police officers from the Madurai Municipal Keeraithura Police Station were conducting a routine vehicle inspection when they stumbled upon 40 kg of ganja in a car. Following this discovery, a thorough investigation was launched which uncovered a much larger smuggling operation involving goods vehicles with fake registration numbers. The smugglers had been storing the ganja in a village called Melavar Pudukkulam in Thoothukudi district.
After a long and arduous search, the police officers were able to locate and seize a total of 2090 kg of ganja, which was estimated to be worth approximately Rs.2 crore. Additionally, six individuals were arrested in connection with the smuggling operation. This was a significant victory for the police, as it helped to curb the spread of illegal drugs in the region and ensured that the perpetrators of this crime were brought to justice.
The efforts of the police officers involved in this operation did not go unnoticed. Tamil Nadu Director General of Police Dr. S. Sailendrababu, IPS. personally congratulated them for their hard work and dedication. He invited them to his office and presented them with a cash reward of Rs.1 lakh and a certificate of recognition for their exceptional performance. This was a well-deserved honor, and it served as a testament to the bravery and commitment of the Madurai police force in their fight against crime.
