BENGALURU: The Karnataka Home Department on Thursday issued an order increasing the amount of reward given to the informers of absconding accused in serious crime cases from Rs 20 thousand to Rs 5 lakh.
A cash reward of Rs 20,000 was allowed for those who help the police by providing information about declared criminals in cases related to national security, threat to law and order, drug and arms smuggling, violence against children and women. Now it has been increased to Rs 5 lakh.
The Finance Department has approved the proposal submitted by the State Director General of Police in this regard.
Most people do not respond to the police department’s pleas as the police informant is only allowed to offer a reward of up to 20,000. It should be allowed to reward up to 5 lakhs. Then it will be helpful to quickly arrest the accused’, the State Director General of Police had submitted a proposal to the Home Department in December 2021. The Home Department had sent the proposal to the Finance Department.
