Bidar: Under the able guidance and direction of senior officials from both the police and forest departments, Bidar district recently witnessed a significant breakthrough in combating sandalwood theft. A series of three major sandalwood thefts had been plaguing the region, causing considerable concern and financial losses.
To address this alarming issue, a dedicated team was meticulously formed, with skilled and experienced personnel drawn from various departments, under the competent leadership of these officials. This specialized team embarked on a relentless pursuit to apprehend the culprits responsible for the illegal trafficking and theft of sandalwood.
Their relentless and persistent efforts finally bore fruit as they successfully managed to intercept and apprehend three individuals involved in the smuggling and theft of sandalwood. As a result of their swift and coordinated operation, a total of 60 kilograms of sandalwood pieces, valued at a staggering Rs.3,00,000/-, were seized from the possession of the arrested suspects.
Moreover, during the course of the operation, the team also discovered various tools and equipment utilized in the criminal activities. These items included a car, mobile phones, kodli (a traditional digging tool), and a saw, all of which were integral to the illegal activities related to sandalwood theft.
The total value of the seized items, including the sandalwood and the tools, amounted to an impressive Rs.8,75,000/-. This significant recovery dealt a substantial blow to the sandalwood smuggling network operating in the area and marked a resounding victory in the ongoing battle against such illicit activities.
Following their capture, the accused individuals were promptly arrested and presented before the legal authorities. As a consequence of the compelling evidence gathered by the team, the arrested individuals were subsequently remanded to judicial custody to await due legal process.
The successful operation not only resulted in the dismantling of a major sandalwood trafficking ring but also sent a powerful message to potential offenders that the district police’s commitment to eradicating crime in Bidar remains unwavering.
