Siliguri: Responding to a tip-off from a reliable source, a police team that included lady personnel of the Siliguri Police Commissionerate’s Detective Department launched a raid at a hotel in the early hours of Saturday (03.07.21) and busted a sex racket.
The hotel targeted was ‘EMPEES’ in the Bidhan Road area of Siliguri where the prostitution racket was being operated.
Among the arrested was the hotel’s owner, Mani Pal, a resident of Bidhan Road; Suhan Roy of Jorepokhri, Jalpaiguri district; Sajal Chakraborty of Saheb Bagan, Hooghly district; Sudip Chakraborty of Bishpara, Hooghly district; Prasanta Sarkar (42) of Government Colony, Hooghly; Shamik Chatterjee (40) of Chandan Nagar (near Post Office) PO., Hooghly; Anil Singh (28) of Bahadurganj (Dhaugaon), Dist. Kishanganj (Bihar); and Gajanan Kolapur (46) of Hubli, in Dharawad district of Karnataka.
The police team also took into safe custody six women who were allegedly engaged in the flesh trade by the hotel owner.
Besides, a number of incriminating articles were seized from the rooms in which the accused were found in an objectionable manner with the women.
A case under relevant sections of the law has been initiated against the hotel owner and the remaining seven persons, and all of them are being presented before the Ld Court today.
