Bhopal: In light of the upcoming 2023 Legislative Assembly elections, the Election Commission’s directives have led to an illegal influx of cash, drugs, gold, silver, and various valuable items, both domestic and foreign, into the state of Madhya Pradesh, all aimed at influencing voters. Acting on orders to seize such items during the code of conduct period, Mr. Hitesh Choudhary, Superintendent of Police Railway Bhopal, and Mr. Pradeep Patel initiated thorough inspections at railway stations and trains within the Bhopal area.
A joint team comprising GRP and RPF personnel, under the guidance of Additional Superintendent of Police, Railway, and Mrs. Bittu Sharma, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Railway, Bhopal, apprehended Mohan Singh Maran on the afternoon of October 12th at Platform No. 1 of Railway Station, Bhopal. Mohan Singh’s father, Ram Gopal Maran, 32 years of age and a resident of Home Bypass Road, Karond police station, Nishatpura district, Bhopal, was also detained. Mohan Singh was found carrying a heavily laden pindu bag and trolley bag, behaving suspiciously, and attempting to evade police notice by leaving the station. He was intercepted, questioned about his bags, and subsequently escorted to the police station. A search of both bags revealed numerous boxes, containing a substantial quantity of silver anklets. The Income Tax Department, Bhopal, was promptly notified for necessary action. Following an investigation and weighing of the silver, a total of 37.772 kilograms, valued at Rs.17 lakh, was seized in accordance with due process.
