Chennai: Greater Chennai City Police personnel have been keeping a close watch on the movement of illicit items like pan masala.
A few months ago, a drive was launched against illicit tobacco products in the city to eradicate illegal stockpiling, smuggling and sale of banned gutka, mawa and hans tobacco products. The City Police Commissioner Mr. Shankar jiwal IPS has ordered special teams led by inspectors to step up surveillance to curb the sale of cannabis and other narcotics.
As part of the special drive, city police registered 37 cases and arrested 36 suspects, including three women. More than 10 kg of gutka and mawa products were seized from them. Nandambakkam police have arrested Godhar Bawa (27), a key accused from Manappakkam.
