Delhi: An incident of rape, murder and then burning of body took place in Gandhi Nagar area in East Delhi on July 28, Thursday. Police recovered the charred body of a teenage girl from a house in East Delhi. Police assumed during a preliminary investigation that it was suicide, but the autopsy report of the deceased revealed that the teenager had been strangulated to death and her body was set on fire. Police suspected that it could be a case of sexual assault because the victim’s lower portion was found burned, according to sources close to the investigation. Police said, “A friend of the victim had said that they were stalked by two youths in the locality. When her friend (deceased) refused friendship proposal of one of the stalkers, he got infuriated and threatened to kill her. She was also harassed and assaulted by another stalker”. Following the friend’s disclosure the two youths Danish and Ashu have been arrested. They had been stalking and harassing the two girls, police said. The friend of the deceased person during the process of identification identified the youths who had been stalking them. Police added that during interrogation the youths confessed that the girl was first raped and then strangulated. To conceal sexual assault, they burned the lower portion of the body and wrapped it in a blanket and fled the room. A senior police official said, the girl claimed that she was also sexually assaulted by them. Cops will now register two separate cases, one for the murder and another of harassment”.
