NEW DELHI: This afternoon a suspected terrorist has been cornered by the Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) in Lucknow, Police said.
The ‘terrorist’ is suspected to be one Saiful who was allegedly involved in the Khandua train blast.
Police said, the UP ATS was called in after an encounter began in Haji Colony n the Thakurganj area of Lucknow when the suspected terrorist began firing at security personnel there.
The entire densely populated area was cordoned off by the ATS. The exchange of fire between UP ATS and the suspect terrorist lasted for more than 30 minutes, Police said.
The UP ATS cornered the suspected terrorist and was trying to flush him out from where he has holed himself up in a building in Haji Colony, Police said.
Police are searching the neighbourhood and a search operation is underway, the residents have been told to stay indoors during the operation, Police said.
