Hyderabad: The process of setting up an Anti-Narcotics wing in the Telangana Police to curb drugs has begun and will be implemented soon, DGP Mr. Mahender Reddy IPS said.
At a recent meeting, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao asked the police to set up a special unit with 1,000 personnel to curb drugs in the state.
Speaking at the launch of the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (HNU), Narcotics Investigation Supervision Wing (NISW) at the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate on Wednesday, Mr. Mahender Reddy said the process of identifying officers to monitor performance was already underway.
The proposal will be sent to the state government soon. He said the department would work exclusively to curb narcotics across Telangana and work in coordination with other government departments.
The focus now is on designing the wing to make its work a success from day one of launch. “It is engaged in all related activities from intelligence gathering, enforcement work to court cases,” he said.
The Drugs Mafia is an organized syndicate and anti-narcotics wing trained to catch them with a steel foot. “Training will be provided to all the latest technology, vehicles and staff available. We aim to be ahead of them in attacking drug syndicates and cracking down on networks, “the DGP said.
