<![CDATA[Chennai: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized 22kg of a controlled substance, Ephedrine, worth Rs1 crore in illegal drug market, from a Malawian national at Chennai Central station on Saturday morning. The accused, Dillian Edina, 40, had brought the drug from New Delhi by Tamil Nadu Express. She was to board a flight to Zambia via Mumbai and was scheduled to take a Jet Airways flight from Chennai, a top official said. The substance was factory sealed and concealed in 44 food tins. Ephedrine is illegaly used to manufacture Methamphetamine, which is sold as a party drug in Chennai, Hyderabad and Mumbai, said Zonal Director of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Mr.A Bruno. Edina was on her first visit to India from Malawi and had come to visit her sister in New Delhi, from where she sourced the drug. This is the second drug seizure in Chennai, where the contraband was destined to an African continent, Mr. Bruno said. On June 9, 15kg of pseudoephedrine, destined for Johannesburg, was seized from a South African national at the Chennai International Airport. Last month, NCB arrested a native of Mizoram at Chennai Central with 3.1kg of cocaine worth Rs10 crore.
