<![CDATA[At the City Police Commissionerate, women police personal dipped their palms into bright colored paints and printed them on a glass wall. This gesture was filled with meaning and it gave the women participants the conviction that attempts were being made towards taking down gender disparities in the police force. It was called “Press for Change.” Perhaps for the first time, the City Police Commissionerate organized a celebration for International Women’s Day here on Thursday. Every policewoman was greeted with a rose and wishes by their male counterparts, including the Commissioner of Police Mr. A.K. Viswanathan. Accordind to Mr. Viswanathan, Over 2,500 women police personnel play a major role in the city’s police force. Women serving in the force make several sacrifices personally in order to discharge their duties. "This programme was organized in order to thank our women personnel. We value them a lot.” He then administered a pledge to the women police personnel to work towards change. Inspector R. Selvarani told that she has never seen such programmes conducted in the two-decades she's been a policewoman. This is the first. And for sure, it was encouraging. Ms. N.K.Vanitha, Inspector of Police told that "Here our senior officers greeted us irrespective of ranks. It is a recognition to our services”. The city police has one Joint Commissioner of Police, Ms.C. Mageshwari, six Deputy Commissioners of Police, two Assistant Commissioners of Police, 100 Inspectors of Police, 300 Sub-Inspectors and 2,100 women constables serving in Chennai.]]>
