Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, July 24: In a commendable initiative aimed at restoring public trust and ensuring justice, the Cyber Crime Unit of Tirunelveli District Police successfully recovered and returned 100 lost mobile phones to their rightful owners. The total value of the recovered phones amounts to ₹18,18,873.
The handover event was held under the leadership of Tirunelveli District Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan, I.P.S., and was carried out under the direct supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police P.P. Murugan and Cyber Crime Inspector V. Rama.
This proactive step reflects the tireless efforts of the police in addressing cybercrime-related complaints, particularly those involving lost or stolen mobile phones.
The police also urged the public to utilize the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR), a dedicated portal created by the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India. Citizens can report lost or stolen mobile phones at https://www.ceir.gov.in/ or directly at their nearest police station.
The SP emphasized that timely reporting of missing phones is crucial, as lost devices can potentially be misused for criminal activities. Public awareness was also raised on the importance of promptly reporting such incidents to aid in recovery and prevention.
This initiative once again showcases the Tirunelveli Police’s commitment to serving the public with integrity, efficiency, and technological awareness.
