Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu: As part of its ongoing anti-drug awareness campaigns, the Tirunelveli District Police has intensified efforts to curb drug abuse among youth and the general public. Highlighting the harmful effects of drug addiction—including impaired cognitive ability and increased involvement in anti-social activities—the police aim to foster a drug-free society.
To support this mission, the Tamil Nadu government has launched the ‘DRUG FREE TN’ mobile app, allowing citizens to confidentially report drug-related crimes. The app enables users to alert authorities about the sale or storage of banned substances such as ganja, tobacco products, gutka, pan masala, and illicit liquor in their neighborhoods.
A key feature of the app is anonymity—users are not required to share personal details like their name, address, or phone number. The system is designed to protect the identity of informants, ensuring that no personal data is accessible to either the police or third parties.
Superintendent of Police N. Silambarasan, I.P.S., has urged the public to download the app and proactively report any such activities to help eliminate drug abuse in the district.
