In a swift and coordinated operation, the Tiruvallur District Police have apprehended three more individuals in connection with the horrific murder of a man near Vengal. With these latest arrests, the total number of accused remanded in custody has risen to six, while a special team continues its manhunt to nab the remaining suspect.
The Incident
The victim, identified as Marimuthu, a driver residing in Chittatoor near Vengal, was implicated in an earlier criminal case involving an armed threat against an electricity board employee. As per his court-mandated bail conditions, Marimuthu was required to report and sign the bail register daily at the Vengal police station.
On Tuesday, while Marimuthu was riding his two-wheeler toward the station to fulfill his bail reporting, an armed gang traveling in a car deliberately rammed his vehicle. When Marimuthu fell to the ground, the assailants ambushed him with deadly weapons, inflicting fatal injuries before fleeing the scene in their vehicle.
Police Action & Arrest Details
Immediately swinging into action, the Vengal Police launched an intensive investigation and intercepted the getaway vehicle on Tuesday itself, arresting three suspects:
- Kalanidhi (24)
- Dheena (25)
- Naresh (21)
Police teams recovered sharp weapons, including knives, from the seized vehicle.
Following sustained interrogation and intelligence inputs, the police secured three additional accomplices on Wednesday:
- Perarasu (19) – Melanur Colony
- Rajkumar (20) – Melanur Colony
- Manish (19) – Melanur Colony
Manhunt Underway
Senior police officials stated that another key suspect, identified as Subash from Melanur Colony, is currently on the run. Special police squads have intensified vehicle checks and raids across adjacent borders to track down and arrest him. Further investigation is underway to establish the exact motive behind the murder.
