Bhopal: A two-day ‘Chetna’ (Capacity Building Workshop II on Anti-Human Trafficking) workshop organized by the Women’s Safety Branch of the Police Headquarters for the nodal officers of the anti-human trafficking unit of the districts and railways of the state, at the ground floor auditorium of the new Police Headquarters on March 20 was launched.
Human trafficking is not a crime, it is a sin : ADG Mrs. Pragya Richa Srivastava Additional Director General of Police, Women’s Security Branch, said that we see child labor happening around us, children begging, forced marriages, but we do nothing. We have to break this mindset. If you are not able to save the victim then you are spoiling the child’s life. We need to be more sensitive about human trafficking. Human trafficking is not a crime, it is a sin. She told the attendees that after leaving this workshop, give your best wherever you go. Whatever the experts here tell you, take appropriate action, be aware and do your bit to stop human trafficking.
Human trafficking is the world’s third largest criminal business : In the workshop, Dr. Virender Kumar Mishra, AIG, SISF, Police Headquarters explained about the legal aspects and important judicial pronouncements in the context of Human Trafficking and ITPA. He gave detailed information regarding human trafficking. He pointed out that human trafficking is the third largest criminal business in the world after arms and drugs. It is a crime in which people are bought, sold or held hostage for their exploitation. He informed that in the last five years, about 90 million people in the country have been victimized by human trafficking, out of which 70 percent are women and children. According to UN data, every year 5 people out of every 1000 people and 4 out of 1000 children are abused. During this, he also informed about the protocol for the repatriation of human trafficking victims from across the border.
These intellectuals also gave guidance: National level speaker Mr. Prashant Kumar Dubey (Director, ‘Awaaz’ NGO) gave information about the social work and various activities being done by his NGO to prevent human trafficking. He also informed about the statistics of human trafficking in Madhya Pradesh. Mr. Rakesh Sengar, Executive Director of Bachpan Bachao Andolan NGO, gave detailed information about the issues and challenges related to the investigation of cases of forced labor or bonded labor (labour trafficking). Mr. Sunil Nema, DSP, Katni GRP, presented his case study on child labor and trafficking and Ms. Jyoti Sharma, Inspector, Women Police Station, Indore, on cross-border repatriation of victims of human trafficking.
