Jammu: The Udhampur Police’s initiative ‘Sahulat’, a grievance redressal cell, has received an overwhelming response from the public with over 400 people and delegations registering their grievances in just two months. The grievance cell was established on May 17 in order to address grievances of public and keep a check on various stages in the process of redressal of complaints. “A massive response has been noticed to the initiative since its inception. At least 408 people or delegations have registered their grievances at district headquarters. As many as 210 complaints have been disposed of within the prescribed time limit of five weeks, four complaints were handled in the sixth week and recently registered 56 complaints are being processed with different territorial units,” a police spokesperson said. ‘Sahulat’ was aimed to devise a mechanism for systematic registration of the grievances of the complainants at District Police Headquarters, Udhampur, and their time-bound periodical follow-up till the issue or complaint gets disposed of on merits under law and to the satisfaction of the aggrieved persons. The initiative includes registration of complaint with issuance of a complaint (Sahulat) number to the complainant, forwarding complaint to unit concerned for its time-bound disposal and regular periodic follow up from the units with an update to the complainant through SMSes or telephone calls till the final disposal of the complaint. “Sahulat is an initiative of the Udhampur Police at the district-level which functions in addition to the grievances/complaints received from the higher offices, including Chief Minister’s grievance cell, which are also given top priority to ensure their disposal on merits,” the spokesperson said.
