Jalpaiguri: Inspector Mr. Subir Karmakar of West Bengal Police was honored by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India with the Union Home Minister’s Award for excellence in the investigation, 2020 for investigating a case of gang rape and assault in Dhupguri, Jalpaiguri in 2018.
On the 21st October 2018, a lady was called on a false pretext to the nearby riverbank by two persons of her locality. However, when she reached, she was raped by one of them in the presence of the other person. This was followed by a heinous and gruesome physical assault on her. One accused was a distant relative of the victim and he has had a land dispute with the lady. The second accused had helped the main accused but had no personal enmity with her as such. The victim’s condition deteriorated and the next day she was taken to the hospital for treatment by her husband.
During the investigation, the statement of relevant witnesses was recorded; seizure of relevant articles like garments, vaginal swabs, vaginal clots, etc was made which were preserved. The accused were arrested and Charge-Sheet was submitted within 3 days.
The investigation was carried on efficiently by Mr. Subir Karkamar, Inspector factoring in all available inputs taking it to its logical conclusion. The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India recognized his investigation skill and has awarded him.
The West Bengal Police congratulates Mr. Subir Karmakar, Inspector, and wishes him many such laurels in the future.
