Uttarakhand, Uttarkashi: As part of the statewide initiative by Uttarakhand Police to eliminate child begging and child labor while promoting education, a month-long Operation Mukti campaign has been underway since March 1, 2025. Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police, Uttarkashi, Mrs. Sarita Dobal, the campaign is being actively implemented at the district level.
Supervised by Area Officer Uttarkashi, Shri Janak Singh Panwar, two dedicated Operation Mukti teams have been formed to conduct public awareness drives, inspection campaigns, and child identification efforts across Ganga Valley and Yamuna Valley. These teams are engaging with schools, colleges, and the general public to educate both children and adults about child labor, child begging, and human trafficking. Additionally, rigorous inspections are being conducted at hotels and roadside eateries to ensure compliance with child labor laws, with strict warnings issued against employing children.
With the message “Provide Education, Not Alms” and “Support a Child’s Education,” the campaign is motivating the community to prioritize children’s schooling. So far, 14 children from financially disadvantaged families have been identified. Due to their families’ poor economic conditions, these children were unable to attend school. However, with the intervention of the police teams, they will be enrolled in schools in the upcoming academic session. The campaign remains ongoing.
