Vijayawada: Three persons were arrested by the NTR district police in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday for raping a woman on the premises of Vijayawada General Government General Hospital.
A woman with a mental disability disappeared on Tuesday. The victim told police that a man named Srikanth, whom she knew, took her to a hospital saying she would give him a job.
Upon arrival at the hospital, he promised to marry her and then raped her and then left her in the hospital, the next day two of his friends came and raped her, according to a preliminary investigation by police.
According to Vijayawada Police Commissioner Mr. Kanti Rana Tata, on Wednesday afternoon, the woman’s mother lodged a complaint at the “Nunna Police” station that her daughter was missing. The police questioned Srikanth on suspicion.
Srikanth initially told police that the woman had come to see him on Tuesday night but had sent her in an auto as it was night.
However, after the woman was found, at the next interrogation, she told the police that Srikanth had not sent her in the auto and had promised to give her a job and later took her to the Government General Hospital. She told police during the investigation that he raped her, saying he would marry her at the hospital.
The next morning, she told police that Srikanth had told her to stay in the hospital and left. While she was wandering around the hospital premises alone, Srikanth’s friend Baburao and his friend Pawan Kalyan, who were doing pest control work at the hospital, told her that they were Srikanth’s friends. He promised to co-operate with Srikanth in the marriage and raped her.
Based on the woman’s complaint, the missing person’s case was turned into a rape case and the case was handed over to Disha ACP (Assistant Commissioner of Police) Mr. VV Naidu.
The woman was sent for medical examination and evidence collection. Police arrested 26-year-old Srikanth, 23-year-old Babu Rao and 23-year-old Pawan Kalyan from Vijayawada.
State Health Minister Vidadala Rajani has directed the Director of Medical Education (DME) to conduct a full-fledged inquiry by department. The Department of Health has ordered that the culprits be identified as workers belonging to a private fogging or pest control agency and that they be removed from duty immediately. Termination notices have been issued to both the security agency and the fogging agency in Vijayawada GGH.
Meanwhile, the state government has announced a compensation of Rs.10 lakh to the victim’s family.
