KOLKATA: West Bengal Crime Investigation Department (CID) arrested last night a woman BJP leader when she tried to flee the country near the international border with Nepal. Police said, the woman was arrested by the West Bengal Crime Investigation Department (CID) in the Batasi area near the Panitanki-Kakarvitta international border in Darjeeling district Bengal at around 11 pm Tuesday night. The woman who is at the centre of a child trafficking racket in West Bengal had been on the run for the past 10 days. The woman is accused of collaborating with Chandana Chakraborty, the owner of adoption centres and women’s rescue homes in Jalpaiguri in West Bengal, Police said. Police said the woman had allegedly lobbied for Chandana Chakrabory in power cirlces in North Block in New Delhi. Crime Investigation Department (CID) booked her under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 370 (trafficking and exploitation), 420 (cheating) and 468 (forgery). The woman was scheduled to be produced in the Jalpaiguri district court on Wednesday where Police are likely to seek her custody to interrogate her. The woman had hidden in a relative’s residence in Batasi village near the international border, West Bengal CID sources said. The woman was attempting to flee to Nepal and her cell phone was switched off for much of the time but in spite of this she was the CID tracked her location from a few calls she made earlier. The CID is looking for links between the woman and two major BJP figures from West Bengal, a Rajya Sabha MP from West Bengal and the BJP national general secretary, Police said.]]>
