Hyderabad: The Telangana government has kept its promise to appoint the first Women Police Station Head Officer (SHO) in Hyderabad on the occasion of Women’s Day. On Tuesday, Inspector Madhulatha became the first woman to take over as SHO for Lallaguda in the Secunderabad suburb.She took charge in the presence of Home Minister Mahmood Ali and City Commissioner of Police CV Anand.
Speaking on the occasion of the ‘Gender Equality Run’ organized by the Hyderabad Police She Teams on Monday, CV Anand said, “No one has been appointed as an SHO till now as it is not a good tradition.” From now on, women will be a part of law and order decisions. The city commissioner said 20-30% of the total police force in the coming years will be women constables and sub-inspectors.
The Hyderabad Police Commissioner said that despite “many family problems”, if their family member is willing to support, women police officers can be SHOs and the department is encouraging them for them.
