Gandhi Nagar: The Government of Gujarat, Home Department has issued a notification stating that Mr. Asish Bhatia IPS (GJ: 1985) Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad City is transferred and appointed on the Cadre post of Director General and Inspector General of Police, Gujarat State in the Apex Scale Level 17 in the Pay Matrix Rs.2,25,000/-(fixed) with effect from 31.7.2020 after incumbent Mr. Shivanand Jha IPS retired from the post after an extension given by the Government of Gujarat. Mr. Jha was to retire in April but was given a three-month extension due to the COVID-19 pandemic, said Gujarat Minister of State for Home Mr. Pradeepsinh Jadeja.
Mr. Ashish Bhatia aged 58, is a 1985 batch Indian Police Service officer. Mr. Pradeepsinh Jadeja said we sent the Union Public Service Commission a list of probable and it sent back three names from which the Chief Minister Mr. Vijay Rupani chose Mr. Bhatia as DGP.

Mr. Asish Bhatia IPS had earlier held the top position in Surat and were also the DGP of state CID-Crime and Railways. Mr. Bhatia is an anti-terror expert who was credited with playing a major role in solving the 2008 serial case in Ahmedabad.
