MADURAI: The Madurai city rural Police here on Tuesday left no stone unturned to ensure that no untoward incident happened in connection with the Cauvery issue. The Police has been providing security throughout the day to the Karnataka-based establishments like banks and private and public establishments operating the district. A popular Karnataka-based coffee shop operating in Anna Nagar here, which was also provided Police protection, had downed its shutters in the daytime as a precautionary measure. All the vehicles having Karnataka registration numbers entering the district were provided Police escort, Police said. A senior official from the Madurai rural Police said, “This is being done in all the districts today. We are coordinating with neighbouring districts about incoming and outgoing vehicles. However, there are not many Karnataka registration vehicles today”. A majority of the Bengaluru-bound services remained cancelled as the inter-State border remained closed while some of them operated buses till Hosur, say Omni bus operators.
