Nizamabad: BJP activists staged a scuffle between Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) activists over the unveiling of a BJP statue on the occasion of Shivaji Maharaj’s Jayanti in the Dharpally area of Nizamabad.
Nizamabad Police Commissioner KR Nagraj said that a function was held at Dharpally in Nizamabad district under the patronage of BJP leader D Aravind to unveil the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
“Earlier, a case was registered against the employees of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation for setting up a statue hereafter they complained that the place belonged to the RTC department. However, Nizamabad Police Commissioner KR Nagraj said there was no permission to unveil the statue here.
The two groups hurled stones at each other, injuring a sub-inspector on duty there, a police official said.
“BJP activists came to the spot to lay wreaths to the legislation and TRS followers also gathered at the spot. Meanwhile, a scuffle broke out between activists of both parties. Both sides hurled stones at each other, injuring the Sub-Inspector. Police there tried to bring the situation under control and dispersed the crowd,” a police official said.
The Nizamabad Police Commissioner said that the process of registering a case against the leaders of both the parties and identifying the culprits is underway and further investigation is underway on the matter.
