Kozhikode city: For the past several days, a young boy and girl have been actively deceiving people in front of various ATM counters across Kozhikode city, employing a scheme where they present fake screenshots to trick individuals. The duo would falsely claim that they could transfer money on behalf of the victims using GPay, thus convincing unsuspecting people to hand over cash.
Earlier today, at approximately 12:15 p.m., they targeted a woman at the ATM located near Mananchira. They managed to defraud her of ₹3,000 using their usual deceptive tactics. Immediately after the incident, the distressed woman reported the theft to the police control room, prompting a coordinated search operation throughout the city.
A fleet of vehicles, including the PINK patrol, control room vehicles, and units from various police stations, were deployed to track down the suspects. After several hours of vigilant searching, the breakthrough came around 8:00 p.m. when CRV 11—a patrol team consisting of Sub-Inspector Vinod Kumar CK, Senior Civil Police Officer (SCPO) Bineesh, and driver SCPO Habib Rahman—spotted the two suspects loitering near the KSRTC bus stand.
The patrol team immediately apprehended the duo, preventing any further attempts at fraud. The suspects were then promptly handed over to the Kasaba police station for further investigation and legal proceedings. This swift action by the police likely brought an end to their short-lived scam operation, which had caused considerable distress to the citizens of Kozhikode.
