Kerala, Palakkad: Kalyana Kumar, 61, son of Udayakumar from Nelliampathi, was sentenced to 23 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs.1,10,000 for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a girl. If the fine is not paid, he will serve an additional seven months of rigorous imprisonment. The sentence was pronounced by Judge T Sanju of the Palakkad Fast Track Special POCSO Court. The prosecution alleged that Kumar enticed the victim, Atijeevi, with promises of money before assaulting her. A Ramesh, then Inspector of Patagiri, registered the case, conducted the investigation, and filed the charge sheet, with WCPO Jincy Varghese assisting. Special public prosecutors T Shobhana and C Remika represented the prosecution, and Liaison Officer ASI Sati coordinated the proceedings. In addition to the fine, further financial assistance was granted to the victim.
