Bangalore, Karnataka: Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Dr. M.A. Saleem has announced that stringent measures will be implemented to curb the spread of fake news on social media platforms. He stated that a new law is in progress to regulate digital content and hold offenders accountable for misinformation that can cause public unrest or harm.
In his remarks, Dr. Saleem confirmed that several arrests have already been made in connection with false news being circulated online. He added that law enforcement will not hesitate to act swiftly against individuals or groups misusing digital platforms for unlawful activities, including spreading rumours.
The DGP also highlighted new policing initiatives designed to enhance public safety and strengthen the bond between the police and the community. These measures focus on improving response times, crime detection, and preventive strategies to ensure a safer environment across Karnataka.
He further emphasized that the police force is continuously upgrading its approach to meet emerging challenges in the digital era. “Maintaining law and order requires constant adaptation to new threats, and social media regulation is a critical part of this strategy,” Dr. Saleem stated.
